We appreciate all that God is doing in His diverse body, and we want to be able to learn from those have gone before us or do things better than we do. Below are three major 24/7 prayer & worship movements that have influenced us in some way. You will see diversity even among those who are pursuing day and night prayer.
According to Mike Bickle, in the 1980s, there were a few dozen groups organizing 24-hour-a-day prayer watches. There are now an estimated 20,000 groups pursuing some expression of 24-7 prayer. Something miraculous is happening! There is a groundswell of prayer throughout the earth.
The term "movement" has become another Christian buzzword, but the prayer movement is a true movement. There is no central organization or single leader. It is a genuine work of the Holy Spirit in our generation. It spans cultures, streams, denominations and nations. It is so widespread that it is even hard to track all that is happening.
It can be hard to keep praying. Especially when our prayer does not get answered immediately. Jesus understood this, and it's why most of His teachings on prayer were encouragements to persevere in the place of prayer. This is what the parable in Luke 18 is all about.
